Tbh, in this day and age, it is impossible to not be using it but the line between using it as a replacement for your own thinking and using it to accelerate your work is very thin and I am not going to pretend that I haven't been on both sides. I try to just use it as an acceleration but there are things that I made that are purely AI made bc of my laziness
My use cases for Artificial Intelligence
- Programming. I try to use it just as an autocomplete. I love this function, having something that can autocomplete me when I'm writing code is amazing, especially bc I managed to get it running locally. But I have to come clean, I vibe-code sometimes, e.g. this website has been made with the help of gemini. And I don't feel bad about it, I HATE HTML. Like genuinely I hate it, I like programming backend, but frontend is a black magic for me and I do not have the patience to learn it. But I plan to make one website WITHOUT AI. Will see how it goes XD
- Graphic design. I am no graphic designer and I use image generation. I try to use it as a base/inspiration but sometimes I'm just too lazy
- Research/troubleshooting. It's horrifying how AI in general replaced search, I remember when I was learning to code and you would have stackoverflow or some other website opened in ten tabs in hope of finding a solution but right now just type it into your favorite chatbot and you are almost always good to go. The amount of time it saves is massive and as much as I would like to do it the old way I value my time, especially when, in that time, I could have been making stuff.
What AI do I use
For almost the past year I have been using Google's Gemini. The reason for it is that I got a one year PRO subscription for free bc I'm a student. When it ends I am probably gonna choose the cheapest AI chatbot I can find.
AI in my projects
I generally try to disclose my usage of AI (That's why I added a note in the footer for this website). Unfortunately. I'm just a human, with a very bad memory, and I might forget to add a note sometimes. The place where you will probably find stuff made by AI are some graphics and some parts of code.
My take on AI
As you probably guessed after reading this short confession. I have no problem with AI usage, what I do have a problem with, is over using it. It's a tool and it should be treated as one, not as a replacement for our brains.
